What brought you here? Where are you going after?

Through Rhizome.org I found SFCP. A combination of endless scrolling and looking at new platforms and groups that work on the cross roads of different media.

SFCP has given me a new lens through which to engage with the creative act: a new way of thinking about the world through computation, biology and patterns. It has opened a portal to a dimension where speculative making and experimenting with mini-fundamental rules/truths/worlds comes together with different materials. This has given me a lot of ideas to explore further, both conceptually as well as through making. I will be continuing the research.

Something you would want to have happened differently? How would you want it to have happened?

I messed up the time zone difference the first lesson, so I missed the first hour of introductions. Wish I was there for that haha. Other than that it has been an amazing time and the 5 weeks flew by.

If we are talking imaginations without limits: would have been amazing to have spent this in some form of physical residency (over the course of two or three weeks do a super deep dive into all the subject matter), being there irl together.

Although the digital experience in and of itself has been inspiring and a very cool experience.

Something you would want to do again or more? What made you feel like that?

I want to continue exploring patterns through computation. Computation in nature, but also play with the different stages of CA. the rule-making/worldbuilding and sequencing of momentary realities.

Also the microbes. The microbes! A microscope would be a very cool gift to myself/ the portal - change of perspective that takes place is very interesting. It shifts what you think and know about matter.

I like it because it combines different modes of being: investigation and knowing + poetry of making.

What was your worst and best memory of each week?

One of the most magical moments was during the break when Murilo left his microscope on and there was a music suggestion of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. For a moment it felt like we were all engaging in the same experience, though everyone was at different parts of the world in different time zones. Just gazing at the lens chasing a microbe while listening to the gentle tunes.

Every week I felt emotional towards the end of the lessons. It is a very weird change of paste to have these intense moments where only learning (and for me a very new field but one that I felt compelled by from the moment of writing the application) and the potential of new forms was central.

Would you share a moment that you felt lost and one that you felt creative?

I have felt creative every time new content was being put forward through the course. Every lesson topped the previous one and transformed the previous information/or showd how it could become something different.

I did not  really feel lost at specific times. Just very grateful to be a part of it.

Do you feel you have made a new connection? With people, subject, practice, idea, etc... Have you deconstructed one?

I have made a new connection with the idea of computation. Prior to this course I knew very little about computation. The visual elements of the science of biology/computation/ CA has given me a lot to think about. I always look for the point of singularity between knowing and unknowing, or some paradoxical moments between research and poetry. The info from this course felt as trying to understand some fundamental rules/modes on which things/aspects of reality operate.

Did you see any peer work or works that caught your attention?

I liked hayley’s weaving. There were not too many projects that I saw growing (as we did not see everyones work because we were divided into homework discussing groups). Over all it was cool though to see how everyone interpreted the homework.
